David Elix incorporated 1878 Elix Lawyers in December 2011.

David strives to deliver commercial solutions.

David specialises in Building and Construction Law and is an adjudicator under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act (SA).

David’s hands-on approach and attention to detail has seen him develop a deep understanding of his clients’ businesses and legal needs. David thrives on his exposure to complex transactional and dispute legal work and cites as a career highlight, the preparation of what was at the time, the largest claim under the Queensland Building and Construction Industry Security of Payments Act.  That claim led to the resolution of a significant dispute without the need for litigation.

David enjoyed a 6 month secondment to a multi-national power service company.  The secondment provided David with a unique opportunity to work as part of a project management team for a significant infrastructure project.

David has provided advice on contracts associated with the new Royal Adelaide Hospital project and the Adelaide desalination plant.

David is experienced in Insolvency and Bankruptcy matters having previously acted for liquidators and trustees of bankrupt estates.  David is experienced at prosecuting and defending preference claims.

David is experienced in property law matters.  David has acted for one of Australia’s leading property developers providing advice for its South Australian operations.  David is experienced in leasing matters having acted for landlords and tenants in the negotiation of commercial leases and resolving commercial leasing disputes throughout Australia.

Before joining private practice, David was a project manager with the Northern Territory Major Events company and was involved with the inaugural running of V8 Supercar events in Darwin.

Personal Interests:

When not at work, David enjoys spending time with his family.

As an inexperienced but passionate yachtsman, in 2010 David sailed from Puerto Vallarta in Mexico to the Marquesas Islands and Coral Atolls of French Polynesia.

David is a Life Member of the Northern Territory University Football Club as well as a staunch supporter of Port Adelaide Football Club.
